DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
“GIRLSAM” looks into the lives within the queer community for those who experience struggle or pain in speaking up to loved ones. It is hard for some people to speak up to those they love in regards to their sexual orientation. Many have a hard time finding the words to say and are afraid of losing family or friends. I wanted to tell this story to help tell people it is okay to speak up about your sexual identity to your loved ones, and further, sometimes you need to choose your own family. We need to start encouraging and strengthening the queer community. We need stories told on the big screen that shows us accurately and positively.
This short film draws major inspiration from films like Hayo Miyazaki's "Kiki's Delivery Service" and Robert Redford's "Ordinary People". As well as the music of Ennio Morricone and French poster art.
